Short answers about renewing with Febe.
How much does a licence disc renewal cost?
Three parts: the Western Cape licence fee for your vehicle (it depends on the tare, the empty weight on your disc), the R72 NaTIS transaction fee, and Febe’s fee of R150 per vehicle. For a typical small car of 1 001 to 1 250 kg that is R492 + R72 + R150 = R714. The site shows your total before you send anything.
What do I need to send?
A photo of your ID, proof of address in your own name that is not older than 3 months, and a photo of your current licence disc. The site fills in the forms and the authority letter; you sign once on your phone.
Does my ID copy need to be certified?
No. A clear copy or photo of your South African ID is enough.
What counts as proof of address?
A document in your own name, dated in the last 3 months, showing your street address. A municipal account, bank statement or cellphone account works.
My disc has already expired. Is it too late?
No, but do not wait. You have 21 days after the expiry date before penalties start. After that the penalty is 10% of the yearly licence fee for every month or part of a month, up to the full fee, and arrears are added too.
Where do I find the tare of my vehicle?
On your licence disc: the empty mass in kilograms, printed next to “Tare” or “T”.
How do I pay?
By EFT. Febe checks your application and emails you the exact amount with her banking details.
Do I have to go to the licensing office?
Not for a licence disc renewal. You sign online and Febe does the queue. A driving licence renewal is different: you go in yourself for the eye test and fingerprints.
Can you renew more than one vehicle?
Yes. Add each vehicle and snap each disc in the same application. Each vehicle has its own licence fee, transaction fee and service fee.
Can traffic fines stop my renewal?
In Cape Town an outstanding warrant for a traffic fine can block a renewal. If the office flags one, Febe lets you know.
